At the top of the pass, before dropping down from the pass south into Painter Basin, a shortcut trail leaves on the right and more directly crosses to Anderson Pass. It took us until 3 AM to get home (we live in Utah). I felt a little light headed when we first got to camp (around 9,400 ft), and made my summit on the 1st day harder. Started around 2:30pm from Henry Fork Trailhead, the hike was very easy up to Dollar Lake(7.5 miles). The county road is signed forest access, and is a good, well graded dirt road. The challenge is that this route is a 41-mile round trip with 6,580 feet of climbing instead of 26 miles and 4,300 feet of climbing. You can also get a view to the Southeast into another valley. It’ll take 3-4 hours to reach the top, and about the same to get back. I have only done this going down, so I’m not sure it’s worth it – it’s climbing kind of like the peak (boulder climbing instead of hiking). Arrived middle of the night at the trailhead for an early AM start. This is a stunning peak that requires a fair bit of effort to reach the summit of. It could have easily been a day hike, but we think you can enjoy it more, if you do it in two days. This made the hike SOOO much less painful. I started 2 hours before the sun rose, and the first portion of the hike is in good condition to complete in the dark (with the assistance of a headlamp or flashlight). Apples are good, too.
